Billable Items

Definition

Billable Items (BITs) are universal, fundamentally standardized raw data components representing discretely priced services or quantities waiting to be aggregated by the SAP Convergent Invoicing engine.

Business Purpose and Architecture

To achieve central Invoicing across an entire enterprise footprint, data structures must be normalized. A legacy IS-U bill structure looks vastly different from a telco-oriented subscription charge string. Architecturally, a translation layer operates continuously. When IS-U successfully runs its native billing calculations, it automatically fires interfaces converting those exact charges into raw Billable Item formats. CI scoops up these ubiquitous BITs (regardless of which source sub-system generated them) and processes them blindly according to consolidated billing rules.
