Core ConceptsConvergent Invoicing

Convergent Invoicing## Definition

Convergent Invoicing(CI) is a specialized, independent billing and Invoicing module integrated into modern SAP S/4HANA architectures designed intentionally to consolidate charges from diverse, decoupled external rating engines.

Business Purpose and Architecture

Modern utilities sell more than just kWh; they sell subscriptions, solar maintenance, and EV charging. The legacy IS-U billing engine cannot mathematically handle processing non-commodity retail subscriptions. Architecturally, the utility shifts final Invoicing away from IS-U entirely. IS-U still calculates the complex electric commodity bill, but outputs it globally as standardized Billable Items. Convergent Invoicing receives those IS-U generated items, receives external items from 3rd party engines, merges them into a massive unified document, and handles the centralized integration to FI-CA.
