Energy Data Management
Definition
Energy Data Management (EDM) is an isolated sub-component of SAP Utilities optimized entirely around the high-speed storage, syntactical validation, and structural management of massive chronological time-series data profiles produced directly by Interval smart metering systems.
Business Purpose and Architecture
A relational database like classic SAP FI functionally collapses if tasked with storing millions of raw data points arriving every 15 minutes to track continuous electrical load. Architecturally, EDM handles this outside the traditional master data constructs. Working heavily with the Point of Delivery (PoD) as its root structure, it autonomously digests EDIFACT data streams. It features specialized consistency checks to flag missing transmission windows and deploys mathematical Replacement Value Procedures to instantly patch holes in the array via linear interpolation before handing the clean profile down to billing.
