Outsorting

Definition

Outsorting is an automated or manual exception-handling logic path embedded in SAP Utilities. It forcibly intercepts and isolates generated billing or Invoicing documents from continuing the normal workflow when those documents violate predefined plausibility rules.

Business Purpose and Architecture

The primary business purpose of outsorting is revenue protection and legal compliance. Emitting an invoice that is 500% over the standard norm damages customer trust and introduces heavy administrative corrections; outsorting stops the error before it prints. Architecturally, documents are frozen with an exception status. Workflow items (OUTSORTED event) are dispatched to agents who can utilize UI mechanisms to review the exact line items, forcing them to manually hit RELEASE or REVERSE the execution to fix the master data flaw.
