Reconciliation Key

Definition

A Reconciliation Key is a mandatory cryptographic tracking parameter in SAP FI-CA denoting the exact bridge file grouping transactional data transitioning from the subledger out into the main General Ledger (FI).

Business Purpose and Architecture

The business purpose is maintaining pure auditability. It allows financial controllers to exactly trace back millions of grouped mass-Invoicing journal entries directly to the originating individual utility bills. Architecturally, before an agent can generate manual Invoicing or a night batch Mass Invoicing run can commence, a Reconciliation Key must be generated and assigned. This key records the exact bounds of the FI-CA postings safely while the batch is running, locking those bounds so they can be securely transferred in bulk once processing finalizes.
