Invoicing Unit

Definition

An Invoicing Unit in SAP Utilities is an algorithmic grouping function that collects multiple independent contracts, billing orders, or Budget Billing Plan items underneath a single Contract Account to process them together onto a single physical bill.

Business Purpose and Architecture

The business purpose is minimizing postage and improving customer experience. Rather than mailing a customer three different bills on the same day for their electric, water, and gas contracts, SAP groups them. Architecturally, the system divides objects into “must invoice together,” “can invoice together,” and “must invoice separately.” It evaluates the EITR (billing queue) and merges the outputs into a singular Print Document payload, applying overarching rules like due-date determination identically across the entire grouped unit.
