Periodic Billing

Definition

Periodic Billing is the standard, time-scheduled billing transaction in SAP Utilities. It systematically evaluates customer consumption across fixed, anticipated time intervals (such as every 1, 2, or 12 months) based directly on a utility’s underlying Schedule Master Records.

Business Purpose and Architecture

Its business purpose is to establish the core revenue heartbeat of the utility, ensuring that standard consumption is assessed legally and consistently. Architecturally, it is deeply tied to Portions and Meter Reading Units. When a periodic billing run completes, it generally triggers the dynamic creation of a new Budget Billing Plan for the upcoming cycle, assuming the customer is set up for levelized billing payments.
