Period-End Billing

Definition

Period-End Billing is a specialized transaction in SAP Utilities that calculates and finalizes charges across a massive cycle (typically an entire year), encompassing several smaller Periodic Billing intervals that have already been billed.

Business Purpose and Architecture

The business purpose is to provide a final reconciliation layer. For example, a customer may be billed estimated amounts or basic flat rates every month, but physically read only once a year. Period-End Billing reconciles those 12 months into one definitive closing invoice. Architecturally, it is governed by specific “period-end” schema steps within the active Billing Schema. It is inherently tied to Backbilling logic, adjusting out the previous periods against the newly calculated, exact yearly total.
