Prepayment
Definition
Prepayment is an alternative customer financial framework where service delivery is actively contingent upon prepurchased account balances linearly depleting based on recorded Interval consumption rather than post-usage Invoicing.
Business Purpose and Architecture
High-risk debtors represent massive liability for utilities. Architecturally, S/4HANA supports prepaid frameworks by shifting from periodic standard billing to daily active “balance determination”. The system processes the incoming meter reads natively through the standard Master Data Simulation engine dynamically subtracting measured costs against the FI-CA prepaid ledger. Once the simulated ledger hits zero, it generates an automated API warning to the AMI head-end system threatening an imminent remote meter disconnection relay unless rapid payment occurs.
