Billing-Centric Prepayment## Definition

Billing-Centric Prepayment(also known as the “Thin Model”) utilizes standard, unintelligent read-only meters, securely hosting all complex financial deduction algorithms reliably within the centralized S/4HANA Utilities engine.

Business Purpose and Architecture

Purchasing millions of expensive, specialized prepaid meters just to handle 5% of a customer base is terrible hardware economics. Architecturally, the utility deploys standardized smart meters universally. The meter merely pushes out continuous 15-minute load arrays. SAP S/4HANA receives the array, processes it immediately against active FI-CA ledgers, calculates the remaining Prepayment threshold locally in the cloud, and initiates targeted disconnection signals aggressively down to the meter only when the master system definitively confirms the FI-CA ledger has emptied.
