Currency Rounding
Definition
Currency Rounding is an automated financial correction triggered during final invoice generation that alters the absolute final billed denominator to comply with regional, national currency handling laws (e.g., Swiss 5-rappen rounding).
Business Purpose and Architecture
Certain physical fiat cash ecosystems do not support 1-cent calculations. Architecturally, when an invoice outputs a number like $104.23, but the country operates on 5-cent limits, the SAP rounding algorithms automatically adjust the value up or down. To ensure the FI-CA subledger does not unbalance by two cents, SAP physically creates localized posting lines denoting the “Rounding Carryforward.” The missing 2 cents is technically deferred inside the ledger and algebraically applied directly onto the customer’s next subsequent periodic bill.
