Contract Account

Definition

A Contract Account is a critical master data object within the SAP FI-CA framework that defines the commercial relationship parameters between a business partner (customer) and the utility company. It serves as the aggregating anchor for one or more active utility contracts.

Business Purpose and Architecture

A business partner is a person. Their contracts define the pipes measuring their water and energy. The Contract Account is the structural financial purse placed between them. The business purpose is unifying a customer’s liabilities. Architecturally, the Invoicing engine operates strictly upon the Contract Account. It leverages the account to manage sweeping logistics like tracking deposit payments, dictating tax assignments, storing credit histories for Outsorting rules, and controlling the formatting of correspondence. Without it, Convergent Invoicing of multiple utility services is impossible.
