Business Intelligence

Definition

Business Intelligence (BI), implemented often within SAP Business Warehouse (BW), represents the dedicated analytical layer and data storage repository strictly utilized for aggregating, processing, and displaying massive operational metrics entirely decoupled from the core transactional performance ledger.

Business Purpose and Architecture

Running a complex sales analysis determining exactly how much net revenue was generated by industrial installations within a specific zip code over five years will lock up the primary billing database resulting in severe service interruption. Architecturally, SAP isolates BI. Operational S/4HANA (OLTP) tables push incremental updates (deltas) out via extractors into BI (OLAP) InfoCubes. Here, specialized multi-dimensional querying frameworks (BEx) spin the data freely, providing management highly optimized insights without disrupting active utility billing execution.
